Monza fires up the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship: Dell’Edera sets the benchmark, Rad tops the final day
The Temple of Speed hosted the collective test sessions of the Italian Sport Prototype Championship (CISP) over the weekend, providing an important benchmark ahead of the next rounds of the season. Andrea Dell’Edera, Iwo Beszterda, Alex Laghezza, Filippo Pola, Luca Verdi, Alex Rad, Richard Sopuch, and Francesco Dattolo all took to the track across two intense days of testing and performance evaluation.
Andrea Dell’Edera stole the spotlight on Saturday, posting the fastest lap of the entire test session. The driver stopped the clocks at 1’53”025, the outright benchmark of the two-day event at Monza. Close behind was Iwo Beszterda, who engaged in a constant battle measured in tenths of a second and remained a threat to the fastest time until the very end of the weekend.
Sunday belonged to Alex Rad, who topped the timesheets ahead of championship leader Luca Verdi. The result further highlighted the highly competitive nature of the CISP and suggests even closer battles as the championship enters the second half of the season.
Among the most noteworthy performances at Monza were those of Francesco Dattolo and Richard Sopuch. Both drivers demonstrated particularly strong pace, confirming their potential after a first part of the season marked by unfortunate circumstances that prevented them from achieving results reflective of their on-track performances.
The two days at Monza provided valuable insights for teams and drivers alike, revealing an increasingly balanced technical landscape and a grid capable of delivering extremely close competition. With several contenders separated by only a few tenths of a second and a number of drivers continuing to improve, the Italian Sport Prototype Championship now heads into the central phase of the season with growing expectations and the promise of unmissable racing action.
“These tests once again confirmed the high level of competitiveness within the Italian Sport Prototype Championship. At Monza, we saw highly competitive drivers, very small gaps, and continuous progress across the entire field. It was particularly interesting to observe the balance among the championship contenders and the performance of some drivers who, despite collecting fewer results than they deserved during the first part of the season, clearly demonstrated the potential to fight at the front. For Wolf Racing Cars, it is a source of satisfaction to see cars that are competitive, reliable, and capable of providing every driver with the same opportunity to showcase their talent and speed on track.” Giovanni Bellarosa, founder Wolf Racing Cars.
