Alex Laghezza set for 2026 Italian Sport Prototypes Championship debut

Sarezzo (BS), February 10 – Alex Laghezza, a young Italian driver born in 2009, is ready to make his debut in the 2026 Italian Sport Prototypes Championship after being selected through the Steering Wheel Award promoted by Wolf Racing Cars and joining the Wolf Academy development programme.

A merit-based path of growth
Born in Massa on July 22, 2009, standing 175 cm tall and weighing 61 kg, Alex Laghezza inherited his passion for motorsport from his father Alessandro and began his karting career at the end of 2021, at just 12 years of age. From his very first outings, he showed determination and natural talent, claiming the 2022 TER Championship (Tuscany–Emilia Romagna) in the TAG Junior category.
From there, he embarked on a steady and structured growth path, competing in major national and international events. The 2025 season marked a true turning point: two overall victories, three third-place finishes, 5th place in the Rok Cup Italia, 7th in the Rok World Championship, 10th in the prestigious Trofeo Margutti, and a Top 10 finish in the 2025 Rok Cup Superfinal. Results that firmly establish him among the most competitive young drivers on the karting scene.

Steering Wheel Award and entry into the Wolf Academy
Last November, Alex took part in the Steering Wheel Award, the international contest created by Wolf Racing Cars, standing out for his professional approach, adaptability and technical understanding of the car. These qualities allowed him to finish among the top 10 finalists.
This achievement led to his official selection and entry into the Wolf Academy, the development programme designed to guide young drivers towards prototype racing and higher-level competition.

Debut in the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship
In 2026, Alex Laghezza will take on his first season in the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship within a well-structured technical framework. Sporting activities and track operations will be managed by Avelon Formula, with the support of Laghezza Racing, in collaboration with the Wolf Racing Cars Academy project.

Antonio Tamburrano, Team Principal of Laghezza Racing, commented: “We are at the start of an important season for Laghezza Racing, stepping up to the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship, which represents a key benchmark to validate the work carried out with Alex over the past two years in karting. With the managerial support of Gianpaolo Matteucci and the strength of a solid technical project, we are confident we have taken the right path towards a natural progression into higher-level championships.”

The driver’s perspective
Alex Laghezza approaches the new season with strong motivation: “Karting remains my first love in motorsport, and that’s why I will also take part in some international races this year. At the same time, however, my focus is on the start of the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship, which I will approach with maximum commitment. It will be an intense year, a major challenge and a fundamental growth opportunity. I would like to thank Wolf Racing Cars and Avelon Formula for the important opportunity they have given me.”

The Wolf Racing Cars vision
Giovanni Bellarosa, Founder of Wolf Racing Cars, highlighted the value of the journey undertaken: “Alex has shown rapid development and strong determination. His entry into the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship is the result of a merit-based path that combines on-track results with a professional approach. The Wolf Academy was created precisely to guide drivers like him towards a more complete motorsport dimension.”

Strengthening the project is also driver manager Gianpaolo Matteucci: “It is a pleasure for me to begin working with Alex, whose outstanding karting career provides an extremely solid foundation to build upon. His debut in the Italian Sport Prototypes Championship, with the support of Avelon Formula, Laghezza Racing and Wolf Racing Cars, represents a fundamental step in consolidating his sporting career.”

Training activities and racing licence
Following the official launch of the Wolf Academy, Alex Laghezza completed test sessions at the Binetto circuit, activities regularly included in the Academy’s training programme. In addition, on February 5, he successfully completed the ACI Sport Federal School course, obtaining his official racing licence and completing a key milestone ahead of the 2026 season.
